This is a known issue with the way the bot script parses the output from the database. ?unfortunately, "fixing" this problem creates an even bigger issue with other responses. The way I ended up working around this for my bot, Morti, was to create a function that parses emoticons into images, and then continues to process the rest of the AIML output as usual. I can say that this particular issue has been addressed in version 2, but that doesn't help your situation much. I'm more than happy to email you the code I used to fix this problem, but since I've completely re-designed Program O version 1 to suit Morti's needs, it won't just "plug & Play" with the original. substantial work would be required to make it work, I'm afraid.
